Paul Killian

Paul Killian is a ceramic artist largely working from his home studio in Suamico, Wisconsin. Retired from a career as an environmental engineer, Paul brings a unique analytical perspective to the tactile world of clay and artistic expression, recognizing that while all engineers are not potters, all potters must be engineers. Working with a combination of wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques, Paul creates artwork that explores the intersection of natural and man-made environments. Beyond traditional ceramic work, Paul embraces the unpredictable nature of raku firing. This process creates surfaces characterized by random, evocative crackle patterns and metallic finishes. Paul’s goal is to combine his technical precision with organic forms, colors, and patterns to capture the relationship between humanity and the natural world.
